Corrosion under Insulation (CUI) is a key challenge for many of our partners in the industry because it occurs under all types of insulation and leads to high maintenance costs and can cause pipe leaks or even ruptures. CUI is very expensive, accounting for an estimated 10% of overall maintenance costs and 40-60% of pipeline maintenance costs in the oil and gas industry.

Large investments are already made to mitigate CUI including research into new coating systems, cladding systems and CUI detections systems. ROXUL Technical Insulation has conducted extensive cyclic CUI testing in cooperation with a third party to determine the key factors for the insulation in relation to CUI. The results of this research were presented at the NACE corrosion conference in New Orleans, USA.
